So I decided to write a blog, and make untold fortunes as a witty internet voice. Well, okay, at least as an internet voice. If you're reading this, it means that you are most likely a member of my family, or someone I paid a stack of quarters out of my roommate's change jar to log on and visit my blog. Either way, welcome and thanks for checking this out. So what is the point of all this? Well, my plan is to post five days a week, and I just randomly chose Monday through Friday as those days. Each day the blog will have a different general theme, covering the topics that are most near and dear to my heart. I am thinking it will set up as follows:
MONDAY - Wild Card Day - Random observations and maybe a story or two from the weekend, and whatever else comes to mind.
TUESDAY - Music - This is "new releases day" so it seems to make sense that music gets put here. I know, I know, DVDs come out on Tuesday, too, but screw them.
WEDNESDAY - TV/General Pop Culture - I don't watch much TV, but I find general pop culture to be pretty entertaining, so i'll lump that all together on hump day.
THURSDAY - Sports - I've been a huge sports fan since about 1990, and like to talk about it. My friends would probably say I like to talk about it a little too much. But they can suck it. Sports is cool, athletes are fantastic subject matter, often for all the wrong reasons, and, frankly, this day will probably be the easiest to write so it's a given.
FRIDAY - Movies - Again, as this is the big day for movies it seems sensible to throw movie discussion in here.
So whatcha think? Sounds tantalizing, does it not? Well, okay, visit anyway though. I'll do my best to entertain. But before I go, let me share very briefly where I am coming from personally as far as interests in the above topics go.
Musically, I have pretty much run the rock music circuit, from Top 40 to Hair Metal to Rap & Hip-Hop to Electronica to where I am now, firmly planted in the Indie/BritPop/Alternative genre. And I have a Dad who is the star guitarist for a Old-Time Country band...and believe me, I have thoughts on that as well.
As far as pop culture goes, I find celebrities to be fascinating creatures, so assured of their own importance while often so detached from the reality happening all around them. But that stuff's no fun to talk about, I'd rather clown on skanky pop songstresses flashing their gear for the whole world to see and fun stuff like that.
Sports is probably the topic in which I have the most "tribal knowledge", as for all the 90's and much of the 00's I was kind of a fanatical sports fan. I've since moved on to (a few) other things, but sports is still a fun pasttime and often worthy of commentary. Football and basketball are the primary residents of my sports wheelhouse, but i'll dabble in topics such as baseball, MMA, golf, or whatever else at times.
Regarding films, I am certainly what you'd call a "movie nut". Back in the day, when the opportunity cost of seeing a movie in the theater wasn't, like, a car payment or rent for the month, I used to see a couple movies a week at the theater. Now, like everyone else, I am a Netflix bitch. But I do eventually see the important stuff, unless it bores the crap out of me. I started saving at Christmas for the new X-Men flick, and am thrilled that it is now playing. I love superhero movies, and give them a long leash of sucktitude. Hell, I even still like "Daredevil". I like action, thrillers, sci-fi, fantasy, political films, comedies, and pretty much everything else that wasn't adapted from a Jane Austen novel. Or that features a combination of any two of: Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Matthew McConaughey, Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Lopez (EXCEPT "Maid In Manhattan"; that flick was tiiiiight!), and Gerard Butler.
So that's it. I'll throw out issue #2 on Monday, and I hope you'll join me for the fun and hijinks. And if you don't, go f### yourself! Have a great day!
